Materials & Applications

Stainless Steel (Type 304) is a highly corrosion resistant iron based alloy containing between 18% and 20% chromium. Stainless steel is a good corrosion resistant material which is generally considered non-magnetic. It exhibits many of the same resistances attributed to fiberglass material and resistance to highly polar solvents such as acetone.

Can be used for Type 12, 4, and 4X applications. Good for applications that require corrosion protection from chemicals and water.

Stainless Steel (Type 316/316L) provides improved corrosion resistance to that of other chrome nickel steels. It is used when exposed to chemical corrodents, as well as marine atmospheres. It provides improved resistance to salt, some acids and high temperature. Resistance to sulfates and chlorine is less than type 304.

Superior non-corrosive properties versus Type 304 and is typically used for Type 4X applications. Good for food grade or similar applications.

Carbon Steel (Hot Rolled) a low carbon, hot finished steel, produced by passing bar stock between a set of rolls at a temperature above the recrystallization temperature. Scale is removed by means of a hot, weak sulfuric acid bath, after which an oil film is applied.

Can be used for Type 1, 3R, 12, and 4 applications. Surface must be coated with a protective painted finish to prevent immediate oxidation.

Carbon Steel (Cold Rolled) a low carbon, cold finished steel, produced by passing bar stock between a set of rolls. This steel is free of scale.

Can be used for Type 1, 3R, 12, and 4 applications. Available in 16 gauge material an lighter unlike hot rolled steel. Surface must be coated with a protective painted finish to prevent immediate oxidation.

Galvanized Steel which is zinc coated to provide corrosion resistance. Hot dip galvanizing is the most common method of applying zinc coating. Other methods include electodeposition and metal spraying. Galvanizing provides protection against corrosion by serving as a sacrificial barrier and providing cathodic protection.

Typically used for Type 1 and 3R applications. Surface may be coated with a protective painted finish to prevent oxidation over time.

Galvannealed Steel which is zinc coated and has been annealed after coating. In this way the spelter is fused with to the base metal, and the result is a zinc coating which cannon be flaked or peeled in forming. The surface provides increased paint adhesion over galvanized steel and also superior forability and welding attributes.

Superior to galvanzied and typically used for Type 1 and 3R applications. Surface may be coated with a protective painted finish to prevent oxidation over time.

Aluminum a lightweight metal that forms a natural oxide layer which shields its surface from many corrosive elements. Type 5052 is the strongest non-heat treatable aluminum alloy.

Typically used for Type 3R, 4 and 4X applications. Lightweight material and non-corrosive properties provide an alternative to stainless steel.

Perforated Steel has a high strength-to-weight ratio and can be used for ventilation, filtration, and provides versatility for mounting internal enclosure components. IEC can provide a variety of material, sizes, and gauge thicknesses.

Typically used for rear and side sub panels regardless of the Nema rating. Additionally, perforated is often used as bug screens in ventilation applications.
